Conceived from a desire for big-city shows, the Grand Opera House in Oshkosh first opened its doors in 1883. The theater was continuously maintained until the 1960s and then had a major face-lift in a restoration during the 1980s. It reopened to the public in 1986 and has been playing a range of performances each year. Tours of the nationally recognized heritage building are available throughout the year.
